One mistake is treating the battery percentage as precise while the phone is cold. A displayed 20 percent may not provide the same practical reserve it would indoors. For important trips, start with more charge than usual and carry a backup plan instead of waiting for the familiar low-battery warning.
Another is leaving the phone in a parked car. A vehicle can become much colder than the temperature you feel while walking, and the phone may remain cold for hours. If you bring it back into a heated space, the rapid temperature change can also encourage condensation.
It’s also unwise to seal a cold, damp phone in an airtight bag and then immediately charge it. A bag can help keep snow or rain away during transport, but the device still needs to dry and warm appropriately. Follow the phone maker’s instructions if moisture may have entered a port.
Finally, don’t confuse a new battery with a cure for every winter drain problem.
