Why charging creates heat
Your laptop’s power adapter converts electricity from the wall into the lower-voltage power the computer can use. Some energy is lost as heat during that conversion, so the adapter may feel warm even when it’s working correctly. The laptop’s charging circuitry also produces heat as it regulates power flowing into the battery.
The battery itself can become somewhat warm while charging, particularly when it’s nearly empty or when the laptop is being used at the same time. Charging usually slows as the battery approaches full capacity, which can reduce heat compared with the beginning of the charging cycle. The exact behavior depends on the laptop’s design, battery condition, charger, and power-management software.
A laptop can also draw power for the processor, display, storage, graphics hardware, and connected accessories while charging. A charger that is too weak may cause slow charging, battery drain during use, or repeated switching between charging and discharging.

A sensible way to judge the situation
Don’t compare your laptop’s surface temperature directly with someone else’s computer. Thin models, metal cases, powerful processors, fanless designs, and different charging systems can all feel different in normal use. Surface warmth is also not the same as the temperature of the processor or battery inside.
Instead, look for a consistent pattern. Mild warmth that decreases after a demanding task ends, with normal charging and no physical damage, is usually manageable through better airflow and workload control.
